Do your skin a favor and start making your own homemade body scrubs! Love your skin again! Don’t worry anymore about buying the scrubs at the store. Those are full of nasty chemicals and most of the time, you can’t even read half of the ingredients. Pamper yourself, give it as a luxurious gift, or even both! After using these scrubs, your skin will feel soft, moisturized, and exfoliated after. All of the ingredients listed, will help promote beautiful skin. Body scrubs are an amazing way to gently exfoliate and leave your skin feeling renewed. Most of the ingredients you already have in your home or local grocery store.
1) Coarse sea salt, olive oil, almond oil, and jojoba oil (optional). Use daily. Add the olive oil and jojoba oil to the salt first, and then add as much almond oil as you need/want to make it smell great.
2) You’ll need coconut oil (you can also use olive oil if you prefer), sugar, a mason jar/container, and essential oils (optional). Melt coconut oil, pour in enough sugar to where it makes a paste. If you would like, add a few drops of an essential oil to enhance the treatment. Then, pour the scrub into the glass mason jar or container that has a secure lid.
3) You will need brown/raw sugar, almond oil (or another oil of your choice- ex. Olive oil), and regular granulated white sugar. Use ½ cup of the brown/raw sugar and ¼ cup of the granulated white sugar. Add enough oil until it is saturated (DO NOT SOAK IT!!) and stir the mixture. Then, it’s ready to use!
4) For this body scrub recipe you will need 1 ¼ cups of brown/raw sugar, 6-8 tablespoons of organic unrefined coconut oil, and 15-20 drops of vanilla essential/fragrance oil. First, melt the coconut oil if it’s solid. Then, combine the coconut oil and brown/raw sugar and mix until it’s smooth and there aren’t any clumps. Now, add the vanilla essential oil to this mixture (while doing so, blend/mix frequently). After it is completely mixed, place it into an airtight container. This body scrub should be used within at least 2-5 months. Apply this scrub to pre-moistened skin and massage it onto skin in circular motions.
5) This recipe calls for ½ cup of salt, 1/3 cup of sugar, ¼ cup of coconut oil, and 15-25 drops of an essential/fragrance oil. Add in more of the type of scrub you like best (if you like salt scrubs then add in more salt, if you like sugar scrubs better than add in more sugar than salt). Once you add in all of these ingredients, stir until well mixed.
6) Add 1 cup of organic cane sugar, 1/3 cup of celtic sea salt, ½ cup of organic coconut oil, 2-3 tablespoons of almond oil, and 1 tablespoon of Vitamin E. You can also add lavender essential oil. Add all of these ingredients one at a time so you can control the consistency of it.
7) This recipe is for a salt scrub with coconut oil and a coconut scent. Mix 1 cup of coarse sea salt (or sugar for a sugar scrub), ¼ cup of coconut oil, and ¼ cup of Vitamin E oil. If you’re only using one of the oils, then mix ½ cup of the oil instead of ¼ cup. Now, add 3-4 drops of the essential oil of your choice and stir until well mixed.
8) This is a cinnamon and natural coffee body scrub. Both of these ingredients are strong exfoliators and used on the skin as natural anti-inflammatory agents and external blood circulators. It can also help eliminate cellulite and even up skin tone. You will need 2 cups of ground coffee, ½ cup of either raw brown sugar or fine natural sea salt, 3 tablespoons of pure cinnamon, 6 tablespoons of either almond oil, coconut oil, or vitamin E oil, and 3 drops of grapefruit seed extract which is a natural preservative (optional- if added, will give scrub an 8 week shelf life. If not added, the shelf life is about 3 weeks.). Combine coffee, raw brown sugar or sea salt, and cinnamon. Mix thoroughly. Then, add the oil you chose and mix well. Store in an airtight jar and you’re finished! Can be used twice per week.
-The amount of oil to use depends on how much of the body scrub you want to make.
-To keep coconut oil in a liquid state, you can mix it with olive oil or jojoba oil. It melts around 70-75 degrees F so try to keep it a little higher than room temperature so it stays a liquid.
-Be careful when using the scrubs in the bath/shower! Since the scrubs contain oil, it will probably leave your tub or shower floor slippery. So, I suggest that you place a bath mat or a towel down so you don’t slip!
-If you have any concerns about the scrub going bad or growing bacteria, be sure to add in a preservative. An idea for a preservative is a few drops of natural Vitamin E.
-All homemade scrubs should be used no longer than 2-5 months, unless you add a good preservative.
-If you have dry or sensitive skin, use sugar scrubs instead of salt scrubs.
-After massaging the scrub onto your skin, leave it on for a few minutes. Then, rinse it off with warm water and pat dry with a towel.
-Use a spoon or other kind of scooper so that water does not get into the jar/container. That way, bacteria is less likely to form from the moisture.
-Almond oil smells great but unfortunately it spoils quickly. So don’t use this in your scrub if it is going to sit around awhile or even if you are going to give it to someone as a gift.
-Olive oil has a longer shelf life so it won’t spoil as quickly as almond oil. However, a little bit goes a long way- it feels oilier to the skin so be sure to use a minimum amount. Canola oil will also work well.
-Other options to add into your body scrubs: aloe vera, honey, lemon juice, oatmeal, cinnamon, shea/cocoa butter, lotion, coffee grounds, grapeseed oil, and green tea leaves (from the tea bag).
