Black Forest Mousse Pie (No Bake Recipe)
On Saturday afternoon, I had a huge craving for cherry pie but I didn’t want to bake. With an outdoor temperature of 90+ degrees, I didn’t want to heat the house up by turning the oven on. As a compromise, I decided to make this Black Forest Mousse Pie. It’s no bake and only requires SIX ingredients. You can even save a step by using a pre-made pie crust. I used graham cracker crust because it’s all I had on hand but you could certainly use a OREO crust.
This pie tastes great on its own but the cherry pie filling on top? It adds a certain somethin’ somethin’. People will think you spent all day baking when they taste it. They’ll never know it’s no bake. It will be our little secret. 😉
Did you ever wonder why certain desserts have Black Forest in their name? According to Wikipedia, Black Forest cake & pie are the English names for the German dessert Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte.
The dessert is named not directly after the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) mountain range in southwestern Germany but rather from the specialty liquor of that region, known as Schwarzwälder Kirsch(wasser) and distilled from tart cherries.
Even I thought it was named after a forest. Who would’ve thought it was named after a liquor?!
