There is an abundance of beautiful light ideas available online and I have posted many in the past. Making mason jar lights sounds pretty simple but this guide should actually help you make them in shorter time and with ease.
DIY Mason jar lights are unique lamp lights one can make without expensive tools or equipment. They are quite interesting and easy to make and the materials needed are items most people already own. Of course, if you don’t want to DIY it, you can buy Mason jar lights here.
To Make DIY Mason Jar Lights You Will Need:
– Mason Jar
– Light Bulb
– Light Fitting
DIY Mason Jar Lights Step by Step
Step 1 – Choosing a Suitable Jar
To start making a mason jar light, the first thing you should do is select an appropriate jar. The jar should be large enough to be able to hold the light bulb. Ensure that this is achieved before you do anything else otherwise you will end up wasting your time and effort.
Step 2 – Draw Around the Light Fitting
Remove the ring from the light fitting and place it on the top of the jar’s lid in the center. Use a pencil or pen to draw the edges around the light fitting to find out where it has to be placed. Make sure you draw it accurately or the light fitting will end up positioned insecurely.
Step 3 – Cutting out the Center
Now using a hammer and a nail, put holes around the line you have drawn in the previous step. Try to get the holes as close to each other as possible to make it easy to remove the middle part.
When the holes are in place, you can use a hammer and screwdriver to begin removing the middle part. This should be easy to do but there comes a point when the metal cannot be tapped out any more. While wearing protecting gloves, flex out the center disk. You can also cut out this disk using a sharp tool like scissors.
Step 4 – Add Air Holes
Traditional light bulbs can get hot when used so you should ensure that any overheating is avoided. To accomplish this, you can punch some additional holes into the lid of the jar. Punch the holes around the lid’s outside with the use of a nail. Be careful while doing this to avoid any damage to the hole you have cut out.
Step 5 – Assembling the Lamp
Once these steps are completed, the only thing left is assembling the lamp. This step is quite quick and simple. To assemble the lamp, push the light fitting through the hole in the lid. Next, screw the ring on the top of the lid’s other side. This would result in the lid being sandwiched between and everything should be in place.
A light bulb can now be installed by simply twisting into the fitting. Once this is done, the jar can be placed over the top of the bulb. Secure the jar by twisting it in place.
Step 6 – Fitting
The completed lamps can be installed at any place where you have a regular lampshade. Jar Lights can be used on wall mounted lights or ceiling mounted lights in any room.
Not only can you use Mason Jar Lights to make individual room lights, but also use them with various kinds of bulbs. You can even consider stringing some jar lamps to make a distinctively beautiful Christmas lighting. Using the right type of bulb, one can create the perfect lights for outdoor use and and they don’t always need the ventilation holes.
