With the always on the go lifestyle that most of us lead, it’s not realistic to think that you or I will never eat fast food again just because we had gastric sleeve surgery.
Sometimes a protein bar or a shake is not an option. Especially when I’m traveling, on a lunch break, or out with friends and family.
And let’s face it, variety is the spice of life.
I like the taste of Chick-fil-a nuggets too much.
And Wendy’s cheeseburgers? The bomb.
When it comes to eating fast food after gastric sleeve surgery, the key is moderation.
- what I choose off the menu
- how frequently I consume fast food
- portion size
- protein|fat|calorie count.
In other words, I shouldn’t be trying to stuff a triple-decker anything in my mouth (or tiny stomach).
And I shouldn’t be going through a fast-food drive-through every day after running errands. I definitely shouldn’t be ordering any milkshakes (no matter how much I’m tempted).
I currently eat food from a fast-food chain about two to three times per month and by making smart choices, I’ve managed to keep my weight stable.
With the exception of my major stressful life event, my weight has varied by about one pound.
My bariatric surgeon is both mortified and happy. I think he believes that Taco Bell tacos are like a gateway drug or something. One dose of taco meat and surely I’ll want a Nachos BellGrande! lol
There’s a reason I keep my “fat picture” up on my mirror. It’s a daily reminder to myself to make smart choices, a reminder of how far I’ve come, and a reminder of where I don’t want to return–obesity.
Don’t worry about me, doc. Right now, I’ve got this.
On June 1st, 2019 it will be two years since my surgery and I have no plans on going backward.

Keep in mind that these are suggestions and are the choices that work for me.
Always consult with your bariatric surgeon first.
