Thanksgiving Dinner Mishaps + Four Free Thanksgiving Coloring Pages
As an inexperienced cook in my early twenties, I wasn’t prepared to host the eight people that would soon be at my house for Thanksgiving dinner. If I was smart, I would’ve ordered a take-home turkey dinner and served it on fancy plates. No one would have known.
But oh no, I just had to cook the meal myself. Did I mention that this was the first time I was responsible for cooking an entire meal on Thanksgiving Day? What could possibly go wrong?!
Lots of things!
I forgot to remove the giblets so when I took the turkey out of the oven, the plastic bag containing the giblets was melted on the turkey.
White meat, dark meat, or plastic-coated meat?!
I added too much milk to the mashed potatoes so they turned out a bit…runny. And tasteless.
The golden delicious biscuits I was hoping for turned into rock solid and burnt door stoppers. I forgot to set the timer so they were hard, burnt biscuits. 😱
The pumpkin pie that I made tasted like straight pumpkin because I confused pumpkin puree with pumpkin pie mix. Doh!
And yes, this all happened in one day. Lovely, right?
Thankfully, everyone in attendance was a good sport about my mishaps.
We ended up eating Chinese take-out.
While it was quite an adventure (and a tad embarrassing), I learned something that day.
It doesn’t matter if your Thanksgiving dinner tastes a little salty or the mashed potatoes are a bit runny. It doesn’t matter if your fanciest tablescape is nothing more than paper plates, napkins, and a card table.
It doesn’t even matter if you have chipped plates and mismatched cutlery.
What matters is being with the people you love and giving thanks for each other. You don’t need a fancy tablescape or a Pinterest-worthy turkey or a towering dessert table do that.
All you need is each other.
It is with this spirit, the spirit of family and friends and gratefulness, that’s led me to create these four free Thanksgiving-themed coloring pages.
They’re my gift to you. Because when it comes right down to it, every single day is a gift.
Wishing you a Thanksgiving holiday free of runny mashed potatoes and rock-solid biscuits. <3
