We have all had to deal with it at some point in our lives- acne and stubborn blackheads. We constantly try new products, tips, and remedies to get rid of it (I know I’ve spent WAY too much time and money on this).However, here is a list of six top tricks that have been proven to work and help you achieve clear, glowing skin and get rid of unwanted, annoying acne and blackheads! Some of these you might know or have heard of, but you might not actually realize the huge benefit that you will get from them!
Exfoliation is my absolute best friend! Since I’m prone to dark spots AND acne, this has helped me tremendously. Baking soda is good for exfoliating the skin as well! Exfoliate 2-3 times per week and you will definitely notice a difference; just don’t do it too much or you will dry out your skin and have the opposite effect! Exfoliation takes away dull, dead skin cells and also removes dirt/excess oil sitting in your pores.
2) Salicylic and Glycolic Acid
Definitely look for products, toners, and cleansers with these on the ingredient labels. Regular use will help to treat and prevent blackheads and acne. They dissolve the nasty bacteria in your pores and help clear away any dead skin cells on the surface of your skin. You can’t go wrong with these two!!
3) Pore Strips
I don’t know what I would do without these… they have been my savior! They really do work and you’ll notice an immediate difference! Pore strips are a blackheads worst enemy since they take them right out. Another great thing about them- they only take 10-15 minutes out of your day! Warning: You might be grossed out after looking on the strip, but it’s better for it to be on the strip then in your pores!
Retinoids are loaded with Vitamin A and works wonders for your skin! They help to even out skin tone, take away the dead layer of skin cells, and encourage healthy skin cell growth. You will definitely have visibly brighter and clearer skin. They are found in over-the-counter products in beauty or drug stores OR you can get a prescription from your Dermatologist if you need something a little stronger (for example, I used Retin-A from my Dermatologist for my dark spots and it was amazing). Some people notice slight peeling at first but this lessens after regular use and you’ll be able to see the difference in your skin (at least 4-6 weeks if used regularly).
5) Clay Masks
LOVE these! Face masks that are clay-based work to draw out any impurities, blackheads, and dirt that are in your skin; think of it as a magnet or suction cup lol! You will definitely see amazing results by regularly using a deep-cleansing clay mask.
6) Don’t Pick!!
This is something I know I definitely have to work on—it’s such an annoying and tempting habit! But it is also one of the worst things you can do. You’ll regret it in the long run (at least I do because I’m prone to dark spots) and just make the situation worse because you’re still putting oil, dirt, and bacteria on your face.
**Also be sure to moisturize your skin and wash off any makeup before bed! Not doing these will definitely contribute to blackheads, acne, and even oilier skin.
