- two 18″ x 18″ pillow covers (wash and iron first)
- two pillow inserts
- two sheets of Jolee’s transfer paper
- a piece of cardboard (to place inside the pillow cover while ironing on the image)
- two 8″ x 8″ vintage fruit labels (free download is at the bottom of this post)
I’m pretty sure I’ve had these pillow covers in my craft stash since Christmas. Of 2016. Yikes! Anyway, now that the weather has transitioned to Spring, and Summer is right around the corner, I decided I needed some color in my life. After a long winter full of whites, grays, and browns, I was ready for yellows, blues, and greens. Since I love all things vintage, I decided to use two public domain fruit labels I found online at the California Public Library.
I used Photoshop to make the labels brighter and more colorful and then sized them to 8″ x 8″. Using my inkjet printer, I printed the labels on two sheets of transfer paper and then used my scissors to cut the labels out (removing any white space).
Note: Before you start your project, please read the directions on the transfer paper package. You may need to mirror the images.
Next, I placed the cardboard inside the pillow cover. I centered the label on the pillow cover, covered it with a piece of parchment paper, and used a hot iron to secure the label.
You don’t want to keep the iron on one section too long or you’ll burn the image (ask me how I know this!). The key is applying pressure as you go.
Once the transfer cools down, remove the cardboard and add your pillow insert. That’s it! We’re done! Can you believe how easy that was?!
It’s amazing what a little color can do for your mood. I feel so happy whenever I pass by these pillows.
Aren’t they pretty? I love how they turned out. The best part? I didn’t spend a dime making them because I already had everything I needed in my craft stash. I love this craft destashing thing! 😉
