Warm breezes, sand between your toes, the roar of the ocean, children laughing, the scent of food being barbecued….ahhhh…the joys of summer. Do you remember when you were a child and you couldn’t wait for summer vacation? Do you remember how excited you felt waking up in the morning and realizing that the only thing you needed to do that day was going outside and play? I remember that feeling very well. It was all about living in the moment and loving the moment. If you’re ready to get back to loving the moment this summer, Virginia Beach is the perfect summer vacation destination.
Let’s talk about the sand between your toes first, shall we? With over 35 miles of coastline, Virginia Beach has a place for everyone. If you want to unwind, soak up the sun, and feel the warm breeze on your face as you doze in the sand, there’s a place for you. If you want to relax while the kids build sandcastles, there’s a place for you. Best of all, the beach is free with no payment or permit required. I highly recommend stopping by the King Neptune statue and taking a photo with the kids. Watching their faces light up with wonder as they gaze upon the 34-foot king will remind you that the simple things in life are what matter.
If the kids are looking for a little more adventure, you can take them pier fishing then head over to the mini-golf course. Once you’re done there, you and the kiddos can cool off at the local water park. By now, everyone should be ready for a snack. How about some fresh strawberries at the pick-it-yourself strawberry patch? Yummo! Are you feeling it yet? You know, that childhood feeling where you:
If you feel like kicking things up a notch, head on over to Beach Street USA where there’s always a fun festival going on. You can jam to live music, get your barbecue on, shop at local vendors, or watch the fireworks. Don’t feel like walking? No problem. Virginia Beach has you covered. You can rent bicycles, in-line skates, go hang gliding, or cruise around on a Segway.
After you’ve tanned, played in the sand, stuffed yourself with good food, and jammed to the music, I recommend winding your trip down with a visit to the Virginia Aquarium. With over 300 different types of species and plenty of exhibits, you will find yourself transported amongst beautiful creatures big and small.
Now that you know all that Virginia Beach has to offer, schedule some time this summer to live in the moment and love the moment. Bring back that childhood joy you once knew. I’ll meet you on the Boardwalk!
